The 2023 San Francisco Art Book Fair is set to take place from July 18 to July 21 at the Minnesota Street Project, marking its seventh annual occurrence. This year’s fair introduces an additional exhibition space aimed at highlighting publishers that focus on innovative and accessible practices in the realm of bookmaking.
Background and Significance
Originally established in 2016 through the collaboration of Colpa Press, Minnesota Street Project, and Park Life, the fair has grown significantly, welcoming over 80,000 visitors in the previous year alone. Expanding its footprint, this year’s event will utilize three venues on Minnesota Street, including a newly added location on 25th Street, which features 45 exhibitors committed to the ethos of creativity and accessibility in publishing.

Among the exhibitors showcasing their work in the new venue are:
- B.B. Press: Renowned for zine-making in the Bay Area.
- National Monument Press: Known for small edition publications.
- Language Barrier: A multimedia publishing entity.
- Auspicious Books: A publisher focusing on innovative narratives.
Workshops and Activities
The fair will also offer a plethora of workshops for attendees. Participants can engage creatively by making xerox art or airbrushing T-shirts during the event. Moreover, visitors will have the opportunity to connect with Bay Area art handlers, hear a presentation on art union organizing, and enjoy an audiovisual exploration of the Bay system’s art and history.

- Preview: 6-10 p.m., Thursday, July 18
- Regular Hours: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday, July 19-20
- Closing Hours: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday, July 21
