San Francisco Proposes Four New Entertainment Zones
Date: September 4, 2024
San Francisco city officials are putting forward a proposal to establish four additional “entertainment zones” within the city. These zones aim to enhance the outdoor event experience by allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages to-go during special occasions.
Proposed Locations
The proposed entertainment zones are strategically located in the following areas:
- Mid-Market, between 5th and 6th Streets
- Maiden Lane, from Kearney to Grant
- Mark Lane and Harlan Place
- Thrive City, situated outside Chase Center
Legislative Changes
The proposed legislation is designed to facilitate the sale of takeout alcoholic beverages by restaurants and bars operating within these zones during designated events, significantly enhancing the outdoor event atmosphere.
As highlighted by the Downtown SF Partnership, a rendering showcasing the concept for the first entertainment zone on Front Street has already been released. This initiative represents a pioneering step, as it would become the first official entertainment zone in California.
Transforming Public Space
The initiative also includes plans to transform a portion of Front Street, between California and Sacramento, into an open-air venue for food, drinks, and live music. This transformation aims to create a vibrant community space that celebrates the city’s culture and social engagement.
