San Francisco Expands Public Art Program with Murals in Underserved Neighborhoods
San Francisco announced the expansion of its public art program, commissioning 20 new murals in neighborhoods like Bayview, Excelsior, and the Tenderloin. The murals will celebrate local culture, history, and social justice themes, with designs created by community-selected artists.
“Art has the power to inspire and unite communities,” said Supervisor Shamann Walton, who represents Bayview. The program will include workshops and public input sessions to ensure the murals reflect neighborhood values and aspirations.
Residents welcomed the initiative, praising it as a way to beautify their neighborhoods and provide opportunities for local artists. The first murals are expected to be completed by mid-2025.
