San Francisco Launches Pilot Program for Free Public Transit
San Francisco, CA – Starting today, San Francisco will offer free public transit on weekends as part of a six-month pilot program aimed at increasing ridership and reducing traffic congestion. The program covers all Muni buses, streetcars, and cable cars.
“This initiative makes transit more accessible while encouraging sustainable travel,” said Transportation Director Elena Cruz. The program is funded through a state grant and local business partnerships.
Riders expressed excitement about the program, with many noting it could save money and reduce car dependency. Officials will evaluate its impact on ridership and emissions to determine if it should be extended or expanded.
