New Café in San Francisco Offers Unique Donut Experience
Excitement in West Portal
A newly opened donut café in San Francisco has created quite a buzz, drawing large crowds eager to sample its offerings. Customers flocked to George’s Donuts and Merriment, creating a lively atmosphere along West Portal Avenue.
From Concept to Reality
Co-owners Lea Dudum and Janina O’Leary have dedicated nearly two years to developing the café. According to Dudum, “Donuts bring joy, they bring nostalgia. We definitely wanted to bring that in, but it felt hard not to bring in salads and sandwiches for people to enjoy in this kind of space.”
A Whimsical Menu
George’s Donuts and Merriment distinguishes itself from typical donut shops by offering a diverse menu that includes not only an array of delightful donuts but also meal options and beverages. O’Leary mentioned, “There’s a little bit of everything for everybody, for sure.”
Specialty Donuts
On the menu, customers can find unique choices such as:
- Donut hole flight with sugar-dusted brioche and Valrhona chocolate fudge sauce
- Key lime pie donut
- Bacon and eggs donut
- Strawberry champagne donut
Hearty Meal Options
In addition to sweet treats, the café also serves:
- Harvest chicken salad
- Heirloom tomato and mozzarella sandwich
- Fries for a king
A Tribute to Family Legacy
The café’s name and royal theme pay homage to Dudum’s grandfather-in-law, George, who proudly referred to himself as the “King of Oakland” during his ownership of a laundromat in Oakland. Dudum expressed her sentiment saying, “It’s really fun to be able to honor him and his legacy.”
Visiting George’s Donuts
Donuts are available from Tuesday to Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. until sold out, while the full café menu remains available until 3 p.m. This new establishment adds a charming flair to the San Francisco food scene, appealing to both sweet treat enthusiasts and those in search of lighter fare.
