San Francisco 49ers Complete Trade and Signing Ahead of NFL Draft
Jordan Mason Trade to the Minnesota Vikings
The San Francisco 49ers have made headlines by officially announcing a trade of running back Jordan Mason to the Minnesota Vikings. This transaction, which also includes the 49ers sending their 187th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, is part of the team’s ongoing roster adjustments.
In return, the 49ers will receive the Vikings’ 160th overall pick and a sixth-round selection in the 2026 Draft. This move was initially reported shortly after the start of free agency and is now confirmed as part of the 49ers’ strategy to reshape their lineup.
This offseason, Mason was designated as a restricted free agent, and the 49ers opted to place a second-round tender on him, securing his services at a one-year salary of $5.3 million. However, with his move to the Vikings, Mason will now embark on a new chapter in his career, while the 49ers gain two valuable draft assets.
Identifying Replacement at Running Back
The departure of Mason raises the question of who will fill the void left by last season’s leading rusher. Currently, the team roster features several running backs, including:
- Christian McCaffrey
- Isaac Guerendo
- Israel Abanikanda
- Patrick Taylor III
As the NFL Draft approaches in late April, the 49ers are expected to consider selecting another running back to enhance their roster depth in this position.
Incoming Addition of Siran Neal
In addition to the trade, the 49ers have also finalized the signing of Siran Neal, a seasoned special teams player. Neal, who entered the NFL in 2018 as a fifth-round pick for the Buffalo Bills, is expected to bolster the 49ers’ special teams unit, which has struggled in recent seasons.
With Neal’s documented experience and contributions primarily focused on special teams, his addition is seen as a strategic move towards enhancing performance in this area for the upcoming season.
