Carmelo Anthony Joins NBC Sports as Studio Analyst
Carmelo Anthony is set to make his mark at NBC Sports and Peacock as a studio analyst, contributing to the network’s newly reinvigorated NBA coverage. This announcement came during NBC Sports’ broadcast of the Kentucky Derby, where Anthony revealed he will appear in the studio multiple nights each week starting this October. His involvement will span the 2025-2026 NBA season, including playoff coverage.
A New Era for NBA Coverage
Starting this fall, the NBA returns to NBC after a two-decade hiatus. In a heartfelt reflection, Anthony noted the impact NBC’s previous basketball broadcasts had on his childhood. “Watching the NBA on NBC growing up shaped my love for the game,” he stated. “Now, I’m thrilled to join the NBC Sports family. I’ve always used my platform to help grow the game, and I’m excited to bring fans a fresh perspective as we usher in a new era of NBA coverage and programming.”
Team Dynamics and Game Insights
In his introductory comments, Anthony expressed enthusiasm about the collaborative nature of his role. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating, “Just building a team, getting back into a team-oriented aspect” is something he is looking forward to. Alongside him, notable figures such as Jamal Crawford and Reggie Miller will also be joining the NBA on NBC as game analysts, while Mike Tirico and Noah Eagle will handle play-by-play duties.
Anthony articulated his intent to delve deeper into the nuances of the game, saying, “Talking the game, speaking the game, figuring out what’s the ‘why’ on what a lot of people are doing, what a lot of players are doing in the game. The game within the game, I think, needs to be talked about.”
Career Transition and Future Prospects
Having spent 19 seasons in the NBA, culminating in a tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony officially retired from professional basketball in 2022. Since then, he has stayed connected to the sport through his podcast, “7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony,” where he discusses various aspects of the NBA.
