Return to the Giants
This appointment marks Baker’s third role with the Giants; he previously served as a special advisor to CEO Larry Baer between 2018 and 2019, during which he shared his expertise in both business and baseball operations. His current responsibilities will encompass similar duties, aimed at strengthening the franchise’s competitive edge within a challenging division.
“I’ve enjoyed my stops at various places, but I’m happy to be back home,” Baker stated in a team release. “I look forward to providing guidance to the organization and helping the Giants get back to the top in a very tough division.”
Endorsements from Giants Leadership
Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi expressed enthusiasm about Baker’s return, emphasizing the shared vision of elevating the team’s performance. He noted:
“I was fortunate enough to get to know Dusty when we overlapped in the organization in 2019, and I’m excited to get to work with him again. We’ve had a chance to meet in person and discuss our shared vision of bringing championship baseball back to San Francisco. I learn something new in every interaction with him and look forward to leaning on his experience and perspective on the game.”
A Legacy Beyond Management
Throughout his career, Baker not only excelled as a manager but also made a substantial impact as a player, participating in 19 MLB seasons with teams including the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Giants, and Oakland Athletics. His extensive background in both playing and coaching positions him as a vital asset to the Giants organization as they look to reclaim their status in the league.
