‘High Art’ Returns to San Francisco for Special Screening
Celebrating its 26th anniversary, Lisa Cholodenko’s acclaimed 1998 film, “High Art,” will be screened at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). This event marks the film’s return to the Frameline festival, where it first premiered, and is part of the ongoing Frameline Restorations series. The screening features a new digital print and includes a discussion with director Lisa Cholodenko.
Film Synopsis and Cast
“High Art” centers on the intricate dynamics between a successful photographer, played by Ally Sheedy, and a young editor, portrayed by Radha Mitchell, who attempts to inspire her return to art. The film stands out for its portrayal of lesbian relationships and is notable for being produced by a predominantly female crew.
While Sheedy and Mitchell deliver powerful performances, Patricia Clarkson shines in her role as Greta, a German actress nostalgic for her past collaborations with the influential director Rainer Werner Fassbinder.
