A notorious participant in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol will lead a new San Francisco Republican group.
Daniel Goodwin, 36, has been elected chairman of the San Francisco branch of the California Republican Congress. The new chapter of the statewide organization is expected to be chartered in January.
Goodwin’s participation in the rebellion was widely known. Federal prosecutors said he was seen on a livestream inside the Capitol with other Donald Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol in defiance of his 2020 election loss.
Goodwin, a web developer and self-proclaimed Proud Boy member, is guilty of entering and remaining in a restricted building. He was sentenced to 60 years in prison in 2023. Days in prison.
Goodwin declined further comment, saying the Republican group’s San Francisco chapter is still being formed. At the group’s first meeting this week, Mr. Goodwin said he would shift the San Francisco Republican Party to the right, develop conservative candidates for public office, build relationships with local officials and collaborate with other conservative groups. They pledged to form a coalition.
