Park Tavern is just weeks away from its grand opening with the great Jonathan Waxman in the kitchen, Teta Nahla makes its Oakland debut, San Jose’s only Michelin-starred spot returns and more, all on This Week In Food has been.
The week’s biggest sci-fi gourmet news arrived Friday morning. Park Tavern will reopen in North Beach on November 15th, the Chronicle reports. The popular brasserie has been in decline for the past few years, operating sporadically with a menu that bears no resemblance to Park Tavern’s heyday of the past decade. But former chef Jennifer Puccio, along with her longtime friend, the great Jonathan Waxman of New York’s Barbuto fame and nicknamed “Jedi,” are now working together with her own James Nicholas (Nicholas was formerly known as (He previously co-owned the restaurant with his wife, Anna Weinberg) and returned to the kitchen. At “Top Chef Masters”. Mr. Waxman’s involvement in the renovated restaurant was actually announced in May, when Mr. Nicholas first revealed his plans. But now we’ve learned that Waxman, along with his current partner Park Tavern, plans to run the New York business and establish locations on both coasts. And as a big bonus, Barbuto’s iconic roasted chicken version with salsa verde will be on Park Tavern’s new menu.
Starting earlier this week, Bon Delisle has been open in a former hardwater space on Pier 3 on the Embarcadero. This new modern French bistro is the project of Sens owner Kais Bouzidi, who grew up in Paris and wanted to bring the flavors of the Parisian bistro scene to this space. There’s now a DJ booth, up-tempo American and French tunes, and a menu of bistro classics like escargot, steak frites, and steak tartare.
Given the past few years, this was easy to predict. The Dungeness crab season is once again postponed until after Thanksgiving. As The Chronicle reports, it has now been announced that the crab hunt could begin on December 1, although further delays are likely due to whales becoming entangled in fishing gear, again. .
“Arab soul food” spot Teta Nahla has opened in Oakland’s Uptown neighborhood (2123 Franklin Street). We first heard about this place a few weeks ago, the latest project from Shawarmaji chef Mohammad Abutaha, and currently open for breakfast and lunch only, Monday to Friday, 11am to 3pm I am doing it.
San Jose is seeing the return of Adega, the city’s only Michelin-starred restaurant. Carlos and Fernanda Carrera, owners of Petiscos, a casual Portuguese restaurant in San Jose’s Little Portugal district, decided to close it at the end of last year, but after many customers decided to reopen it, they decided to reopen Adega. He said he had heard voices saying he should do it. The new Adega 2.0 will open on November 15th and offer a seasonally changing tasting menu at 1614 Alum Rock Avenue.
Additionally, Chronicle restaurant critic Mackenzie Chan Fegan submitted no new reviews this week, but is awaiting her next review.
