Kyle Shanahan doesn’t care what the internet thinks.
At least when it comes to the 49ers’ current situation, even in the middle of a season where nothing seems to be going right.
On Wednesday, Shanahan painted a positive picture of San Francisco’s locker room despite falling below .500 in Sunday’s blowout loss to Green Bay.
“The atmosphere in our locker room is as you would expect,” Shanahan told reporters during a media availability. And we play together. ”
In particular, the 49ers coach pushed back on the idea that online discussions affected him or his team.
“If you live in an online world, whether you’re engaged in our profession or your children are engaged in social issues in school, engaging with the world online doesn’t make you happy. I think so,” Shanahan continued. “And I’ve definitely been coaching long enough that I don’t have a connection to that world. Usually all I watch is movie stuff and rap battles and funny animal stuff.”
So, needless to say, Shanahan doesn’t appear to be scrolling through Twitter after a crushing loss. However, he explained that it’s important to avoid feedback from social media (good or bad) as much as possible.
“If you listen to the good stuff, that stuff will ruin you more than anything. And if you listen to the bad stuff, it crushes you,” Shanahan said. “That’s not why any of us do this. We have to work with young people on that. I think it’s more difficult because of the world they grew up in. But other people Don’t let that reality become your reality. You must focus on your work and never run away from it.”
That message is as vital as ever for the 49ers, who have lost two straight and fall to 5-6 before a daunting road trip to Buffalo this Sunday.
