Leap Day Festivities Bring Creativity and Rain to San Francisco
San Francisco celebrated Leap Day with a variety of events that showcased the city’s creativity and resilience. From themed parties at local bars to a special Leap Day exhibit at the Exploratorium, residents made the most of the extra day in the calendar year.
However, the festivities were tempered by heavy rain, which led to minor flooding in parts of the city and disrupted outdoor activities. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning, urging caution for those traveling during the downpour.
Despite the weather, many residents embraced the day’s spirit of spontaneity and joy. “San Francisco always finds a way to celebrate, rain or shine,” said local artist Maria Torres, who hosted a Leap Day pop-up art show in SoMa. The day ended with optimism for the year ahead, as the city continues to balance its challenges with moments of unity and creativity.
