Despite the recent departures of the Oakland A’s and the Oakland Raiders from the Coliseum, cricket now joins soccer as part of the venue’s diverse sporting offerings. The Oakland Roots have recently played their inaugural soccer game at this stadium, making the Coliseum the first venue in North America to host both soccer and cricket, two of the world’s most popular sports.

Beginning in June, cricket fans can look forward to a week of matches featuring all six MLB teams. Anand Rajaraman, co-owner of the Unicorns, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m sad that those teams have left our area as a sports fan in the Bay Area, but I’m also thankful for the opportunity that it gives us to come and play here.”
MLC CEO Johnny Grave highlighted the significance of this development, particularly as cricket is set to be introduced in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. “It’s going to be a big statement for the sport,” he noted, adding that the venue is expected to attract a global audience of approximately 100 million viewers.

A total of nine matches are scheduled at the Oakland Coliseum, with the San Francisco Unicorns kicking off the series against the Washington Freedom on June 12.
