Transforming San Francisco’s Waterfront
San Francisco’s Pier 70 redevelopment project reached a major milestone today, with the first phase set to open next month. Once a historic industrial site, the pier is being transformed into a mixed-use neighborhood featuring housing, retail spaces, offices, and waterfront parks.
Preserving History While Innovating
Developers have worked to retain the area’s industrial character while incorporating sustainable design elements. The project includes 1,000 housing units, 30% of which are designated as affordable housing, as well as recreational areas that will enhance public access to the waterfront.
A Boost for Local Economy
“Pier 70 represents the future of urban living—balancing history, innovation, and sustainability,” said project manager Rachel Lin. Local businesses anticipate an economic boost as retail spaces and offices attract new tenants and visitors.
Concerns About Gentrification
Community advocates have praised the development’s inclusion of affordable housing but caution against potential gentrification in surrounding neighborhoods. Once fully completed in 2026, the project is expected to generate significant economic activity and provide much-needed public amenities.
