Protesters Rally Against Proposed Luxury Development in Mission District
San Francisco, CA — Hundreds of residents gathered in the Mission District today to protest a proposed luxury housing development they say will exacerbate gentrification in one of San Francisco’s most diverse neighborhoods. The rally, organized by community groups including Calle 24 and the Mission Housing Alliance, called for the city to prioritize affordable housing instead.
The development, planned for a site on Valencia Street, would include 150 high-end condos but only 10 affordable units. “This isn’t housing for us; it’s housing for the wealthy,” said longtime resident Teresa Lopez.
Developers argue the project will bring jobs and economic growth, but tensions remain high as the city considers final approval.
