San Francisco Begins Overhaul of Aging Water Infrastructure
San Francisco, CA – City officials have launched a $1.2 billion project to upgrade San Francisco’s aging water infrastructure, focusing on pipelines, reservoirs, and treatment facilities. The initiative, set to span the next decade, aims to improve water quality, reduce leaks, and prepare for climate-related challenges.
“Our water system is the backbone of this city, and it’s time we modernized it,” said Public Utilities Commission Director Angela Perez. Initial work will focus on replacing 100 miles of old pipes and upgrading earthquake resilience.
While some residents expressed concerns about potential disruptions, officials promised transparent communication and minimal impact on water service. The project is expected to generate thousands of jobs in the region.
