The San Francisco Giants still have to figure out what their 2025 roster will look like, as they haven’t signed any players to major league contracts or made any trades this offseason. But even though we don’t know who’s going to play, we know who’s going to be the coach.
On Thursday, the Giants made several moves with their coaching staff and finalized it as a result. As long speculated, Damon Minor was promoted to the major league staff after spending eight years with the Giants’ AAA affiliate in Sacramento. They also hired Oscar Bernard from the San Diego Padres, where he coached with Bob Melvin a few years ago.
Minor and Bernard will both serve as assistant hitting coaches under head hitting coach Pat Burrell, who returns for his second season. They replace Pedro Guerrero and Justin Viele, who went to the Marlins and Rangers, respectively. Critically, Bernard, like Guerrero, is bilingual, which is an essential skill set for any club, but as the Giants look to develop Luis Matos and Marco Luciano into everyday MLB players. Particularly useful.
Finally, Yasuyoshi Uematsu was promoted from assistant coach to quality control coach. This leaves the Giants with a complete staff for the 2025 season.
Now, let’s gather talented players to be coached by them.
How many days until the opening?
Point 111! Make a wish! Hopefully with the Giants and them being on good terms or something.
