New Development Project Underway in Mission Bay, San Francisco
An exciting new development is taking shape in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood, where plans have been approved for a significant building project designed to integrate office, laboratory, and artistic spaces alongside dedicated accommodations for visiting business guests.
Project Approval and Development Details
A demolition permit was granted in August, marking the beginning of construction activities. Currently, the Department of Building Inspection is reviewing an application that focuses on the excavation of the site’s underground foundation.
Workshop1, an architectural firm based in Oakland, is at the helm of this project. Although they have not responded to a request for comment, project documents indicate that the development will span 25,000 square feet, featuring:
- Office spaces
- Laboratory facilities
- Artistic venues
- A three-bedroom unit of approximately 4,700 square feet on the fifth floor for business guests
- A roof deck for recreational use
Historical Context and Site Acquisition
Before the current plans were initiated, another developer collaborated with Workshop1 in a proposal to convert the site into a mixed-use apartment building. However, the vision shifted when the latest owner, Curry, acquired the property, setting the stage for its current development.
Strategic Location Near Pier 70 and Chase Center
This new building is strategically located adjacent to the forthcoming Pier 70 redevelopment and is only half a mile away from the Chase Center. The Mission Bay area has emerged as a standout location within San Francisco’s commercial real estate landscape, showing resilience amid broader market challenges.
Future Prospects
As this project moves forward, it is poised to contribute significantly to the ongoing transformation of the Mission Bay area, offering a mix of functionality and hospitality that meets the needs of both local residents and visiting professionals.
