San Francisco Schools Receive $30 Million Grant for Seismic Retrofits
San Francisco, CA – The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) has been awarded a $30 million state grant to accelerate seismic retrofits in schools. The funding will prioritize older buildings in high-risk areas, ensuring the safety of students and staff during future earthquakes.
“Education and safety go hand in hand,” said SFUSD Superintendent Clara Ramirez. The grant will cover upgrades to structural reinforcements, emergency exits, and safety equipment.
Parents welcomed the announcement, with many expressing relief that their children’s schools will be better prepared. “This is an investment in our future,” said Mission District parent Raul Hernandez. Retrofits are set to begin in early 2025.
