San Francisco Approves Waterfront Resilience Project
San Francisco, CA – The city has approved a $2 billion Waterfront Resilience Project to protect San Francisco’s coastline from rising sea levels and future earthquakes. The plan includes strengthening seawalls, expanding green spaces, and adding flood barriers to high-risk areas like the Embarcadero.
“San Francisco’s waterfront is vital to our economy and culture, and we must safeguard it for future generations,” said Mayor Carla Alvarez. The project will be funded through a mix of state and federal grants, as well as local bond measures.
Environmental groups praised the project for incorporating sustainability, while some residents raised concerns about potential construction disruptions. Work is expected to begin in mid-2025.
