San Francisco Expands Street Cleaning Program Ahead of Holiday Season
San Francisco announced an expanded street cleaning initiative to ensure downtown areas and major neighborhoods are spotless ahead of the holiday season. The $10 million program will deploy additional crews to clean sidewalks, remove graffiti, and maintain public trash cans in high-traffic areas like Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf, and the Mission District.
“This is about creating a welcoming environment for residents and visitors during the busiest time of year,” said Mayor London Breed. The program will also prioritize cleanliness around holiday markets and public parks.
While many residents applauded the initiative, critics noted the need for a long-term solution to maintain cleanliness year-round. City officials pledged to evaluate the program’s success and consider permanent expansions in the future.
