San Francisco Sets New Recycling Records Amid Zero-Waste Push
San Francisco announced it has achieved a 90% waste diversion rate, setting a new record as part of its ambitious zero-waste goal by 2035. The milestone was reached through expanded composting programs, stricter recycling regulations, and increased public awareness campaigns.
“This achievement shows that San Francisco is serious about sustainability,” said Recology spokesperson Sarah Martinez. Officials credited the success to partnerships with businesses and nonprofits that promoted waste reduction practices.
Environmental groups celebrated the milestone but urged the city to focus on reducing waste production, particularly plastic packaging. City officials plan to introduce additional policies in 2025 to target waste at its source.
