San Francisco Launches First Drone Delivery Service for Medical Supplies
San Francisco became the first city in California to approve drone delivery services for medical supplies, with the program launching today in collaboration with local hospitals. The drones will deliver medications, vaccines, and lab samples to healthcare facilities across the city, reducing delivery times and improving efficiency.
“This technology will save lives by ensuring critical supplies arrive where they’re needed, when they’re needed,” said UCSF Medical Director Dr. Anita Patel. The program is expected to reduce delivery times by up to 50%.
Critics raised concerns about noise and airspace safety, but city officials assured the public that the drones meet strict federal guidelines and will operate within designated routes.
