City to Open First LGBTQ+ Senior Housing Complex
San Francisco will open its first LGBTQ+ senior housing complex in the Castro District next month, providing affordable and supportive housing for older adults. The complex will include 125 units, as well as communal spaces, health services, and social programs tailored to LGBTQ+ seniors.
“This is a safe and affirming space for seniors who have often faced discrimination,” said LGBTQ+ advocate Gloria Wang. Residents were selected through a lottery system, with priority given to those with lower incomes or experiencing homelessness.
Advocates praised the development as a model for inclusive housing, while some called for similar projects in other neighborhoods. City officials committed to exploring more opportunities to meet the growing demand.
