San Francisco Expands Free Public Transit Program
San Francisco, CA – Starting today, the city’s popular free public transit program will now include weekday mornings as part of an expanded initiative to encourage sustainable commuting. Residents and workers can ride Muni buses, streetcars, and cable cars without charge from 5 AM to 9 AM.
“This is about reducing traffic, lowering emissions, and making transit more accessible,” said Transportation Director Elena Cruz. Funded through a combination of federal grants and city allocations, the program is expected to increase ridership significantly.
Commuters expressed enthusiasm about the change. “This makes a huge difference for people who rely on public transit,” said Mission District resident Sarah Lopez. The program will be evaluated midyear to determine its impact on congestion and emissions.
