March 13 (UPI) — The San Francisco 49ers have officially signed free agent quarterback Mac Jones on a two-year deal valued at $7 million. This contract could reach a total of $11.5 million based on performance incentives.
Background and Recent Performance
At 26 years old, Mac Jones brings significant experience to the 49ers. He was previously with the Jacksonville Jaguars, having been traded there in March of last year. Following a decline of a $25.6 million fifth-year option shortly thereafter, Jones found himself in a backup role for the Jaguars behind Trevor Lawrence.
During the 2024-25 NFL season, Jones participated in ten games, stepping in as the starting quarterback when Lawrence was sidelined due to a shoulder injury. Across his appearances, Jones completed 65.3% of his passes, accumulating 1,672 yards along with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions while starting seven games.
