Progeny Coffee Launches New Cafe in San Francisco
Opening of a New Location
Progeny Coffee, a socially responsible coffee company founded by John Trabelsi and Maria Palacio, has inaugurated its latest cafe in San Francisco. Nestled on the first floor of The Landing, this establishment represents a swift transition from concept to reality, allowing the couple to commence operations without extensive renovations.
Cafe Offerings
The cafe’s beverage menu features seasonal signature drinks, beginning with mint mochas and blueberry lattes. All syrups are prepared in-house, emphasizing freshness and quality. Goodmylk, a female-founded company, supplies the almond milk used in drinks, which is gluten-free, bee-friendly, and free from chemicals.
In an exciting development, the cafe will eventually roast Colombian coffee beans on-site, enhancing the flavor profiles of the beverages. Jesse Gonzalez, Progeny’s coffee director, will oversee this aspect of operations, ensuring high standards and proper training within the team. Trabelsi remarked, “It’s his moment. He’s worked so hard. It’s his time to shine.”
Food and Additional Beverages
The cafe also highlights local products, featuring teas from Bay Area-based Mala Tara and grab-and-go items from minority and impact-driven founders, including juices from Happy Moose and sodas from Bayjoo and Live Waku. In partnership with local bakers such as the French Spot and Elideli, patrons will enjoy a selection of pastries including croissants and morning buns.
Looking ahead, Progeny Coffee plans to expand its beverage selection to include wine and beer, taking advantage of unique licensing agreements. This will complement their food offerings, which are expected to feature dishes like onion soup and cheese platters, alongside food trucks that will visit on Friday nights starting in April.
Market Presence
The new Progeny Coffee location occupies a space with limited competition in the specialty coffee sector. Recently, Ikon Roastery established itself in the area, and Neighbor Bakehouse has made a name with its previous pop-up, Paper Son Coffee. Trabelsi remains optimistic about their venture, citing a pick-up subscription option that will help manage costs related to bagging and shipping amid fluctuating coffee markets: “The model we have, and the companies we work with, are incredible,” he stated. “I think we can do it.”
Location and Hours
Progeny Coffee is located at 1395 22nd Street, San Francisco, and operates daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
