Golden Gate Bridge Toll Prices Increase Amid Budget Shortfall
San Francisco, CA — Starting today, commuters crossing the Golden Gate Bridge will pay higher tolls as the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District implements a long-planned increase to address a growing budget deficit.
Tolls for regular vehicles have risen by $1, bringing the new rate for FasTrak users to $9. For those paying via license plate, the toll jumps to $10.80. The increase is part of a five-year plan to stabilize the district’s finances, strained by declining ridership on ferries and buses.
While the district argues the increase is necessary to maintain the iconic bridge and transit services, commuters are expressing frustration. “Everything is getting more expensive, and now this? It’s another blow for working people,” said daily commuter Elisa Ramirez.
The toll hike has renewed calls for alternative funding solutions, including congestion pricing and federal aid.
