San Francisco Announces Plan to Protect Homeless Residents After Earthquake
San Francisco, CA – City officials have announced an emergency initiative to provide shelter and resources for homeless residents displaced by the recent earthquake. Temporary shelters have been set up at Moscone Center and Civic Center Plaza, offering food, medical care, and counseling services.
“The homeless population is among the most vulnerable during disasters,” said Supervisor Joaquin Torres. The city is also deploying mobile teams to locate and assist unsheltered individuals in areas hardest hit by the quake.
Advocates applauded the effort but stressed the need for permanent housing solutions. “These temporary measures are necessary, but we must address the root causes of homelessness,” said Sarah Ortiz, director of the Bay Area Housing Alliance.
