San Francisco Elects New Mayor in Historic Election
San Francisco, CA – San Francisco made history last night as residents elected Maya Bennett as the city’s first Black female mayor. A progressive candidate and former city supervisor, Bennett won with a commanding 57% of the vote, signaling a shift in the city’s political landscape.
“This victory is not just mine, but ours,” Bennett said during her victory speech in Civic Center Plaza. “Together, we will build a San Francisco that works for everyone, not just the few.” Her campaign focused on tackling the city’s housing crisis, improving public transit, and increasing police accountability.
Voter turnout reached a record 68%, fueled by a tight race and heightened interest in local issues. Bennett’s supporters celebrated her win as a step toward a more inclusive future. Her administration is set to begin in January 2025, and her first order of business is expected to be addressing the affordability crisis.
