San Francisco Kicks Off Boxing Day Shopping with Record Discounts
San Francisco retailers launched post-Christmas sales with record discounts, drawing large crowds to Union Square and other shopping districts. The Boxing Day shopping spree provided a much-needed boost to local businesses still recovering from the economic impacts of the pandemic.
“This is one of our busiest days of the year,” said Amy Johnson, a manager at a Union Square boutique. “We’re seeing both locals and tourists take advantage of the deals.”
The city also partnered with transit agencies to offer free Muni rides for shoppers, easing congestion and encouraging public transit use. Officials estimate that the day’s sales could inject millions into the local economy.
