San Francisco, CA – In a push to improve air quality and reduce noise pollution, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors has approved a citywide ban on gas-powered leaf blowers, effective January 2025. The measure, passed in a unanimous vote, mandates that landscaping companies and homeowners transition to electric or manual alternatives.
“Gas-powered blowers are outdated and harmful to both the environment and public health,” said Supervisor Maria Chen, who sponsored the bill. The city plans to offer rebates to help small businesses make the switch to cleaner equipment.
While environmental groups have praised the move, some landscapers expressed concerns about the cost of new equipment. The city is also considering additional measures to support compliance, including extended deadlines for small operators.
