San Francisco, CA – In an effort to support local businesses struggling with skyrocketing rents, the Board of Supervisors introduced a proposal to cap commercial rent increases for small businesses. The policy would limit annual increases to 5%, similar to residential rent control.
“This is about protecting the heart of our neighborhoods,” said Supervisor Dan Rodgers. While many small business owners welcomed the plan, some landlords argued it could discourage commercial development. A final vote is expected next month.
