Fleet Week Returns Bigger Than Ever
The city unveiled the official schedule for its much-anticipated Fleet Week, set to take place from October 6–14, 2024. This year’s event will feature an expanded lineup of activities, including the iconic airshow by the Blue Angels, additional ship tours, and new disaster preparedness workshops.
Celebrating Maritime Heritage and Community Resilience
“Fleet Week is more than just a celebration of our maritime heritage; it’s also an opportunity to showcase disaster preparedness and build community pride,” said event coordinator Mark Hamilton. The event is expected to draw over a million attendees and generate significant revenue for local businesses.
New Highlights for 2024
In addition to the traditional airshow and ship tours, Fleet Week will include a Parade of Ships, interactive STEM exhibits for children, and humanitarian assistance demonstrations. Military personnel will host hands-on activities designed to engage and educate the public.
Balancing Celebration with Sustainability
While widely celebrated, the event has drawn criticism from environmental groups concerned about the carbon emissions and noise pollution generated by the airshow. Organizers have responded by pledging to implement carbon offset programs and explore more sustainable practices for future Fleet Week celebrations.
