San Francisco Begins Distribution of Earthquake Recovery Funds
San Francisco, CA – The city has begun distributing $500 million in federal disaster aid to businesses and residents impacted by the recent earthquake. Applications for recovery grants and loans opened today, with priority given to small businesses and low-income households.
“Our goal is to get these funds into the hands of those who need them most, as quickly as possible,” said Mayor Carla Alvarez. Businesses like restaurants and retail stores in heavily affected neighborhoods, such as SoMa and the Mission, were among the first to receive support.
Applicants praised the streamlined process, but some expressed concerns about whether funds would be sufficient to cover their losses. City officials promised additional resources if necessary to ensure a full recovery.
