San Francisco, CA — City officials announced plans to expand protected bike lanes on key streets, including Valencia, Polk, and Market, as part of Vision Zero, the city’s initiative to eliminate traffic fatalities.
The $50 million project will add 20 miles of protected lanes by the end of 2025. “This is a major step toward making San Francisco safer and more accessible for cyclists,” said SFMTA Director Jeffrey Tumlin.
Cyclist advocacy groups praised the move but urged the city to accelerate its timeline. Construction is set to begin this summer.
