Historic Ferry Building to Undergo Major Renovations
San Francisco’s iconic Ferry Building is set for a revitalization as city officials announced plans for significant renovations to modernize the historic landmark while preserving its architectural charm. The $50 million project will include new vendor spaces, upgrades to common areas, and improvements to its waterfront promenade.
“This building is not just a symbol of our city’s history but a cornerstone of its future,” said Mayor Daniel Lurie at the announcement. The project aims to boost tourism and local commerce, particularly as the city continues its post-pandemic recovery.
Preservationists and business owners welcomed the news, expressing hope that the updates would attract more visitors while maintaining the building’s historical integrity. Construction is expected to begin in late 2024, with completion targeted for 2026.
